UNIDO SPX (Beijing) Center opened
On May 31, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Industry Subcontracting and Exchange (Beijing) Center (short for SPX (Beijing) Center) sponsored by BMSTC with the aid of UNIDO announced its establishment.
SPXs is a constituent part of UNIDO Supply Chain Development Program, or SCDP, which devotes itself to helping the developing countries entering the global subcontracting and supply chain and establishing SPXs, with a mission to facilitate production linkage among small, medium or large-sized manufacturing enterprises to connect with the world market and productive value chain.
UNIDO currently maintains 57 SPXs in 32 countries, which have generated sound economic and social benefits. By the end of year 2003, SPX achieved a total volume of industry subcontracting trade and investment worth USD 150 billion. The surveys conducted over the past years show that each SPX member received at least two consulting services every year, and 66% of the membership have succeeded in concluding at least one subcontracting agreement.
Currently, the industry subcontracting involves such major industrial sectors as metalworking, electro-mechanics, electronics (including software subcontracting), plastics, rubbers, chemicals and non-metal processing and manufacturing. According to the relevant statistics, every ten job opportunities the industry subcontracting creates will generate dozens or hundred plus job opportunities from its complementary or peripheral industries.
The establishment of SPX (Beijing) Center symbolizes Beijing’s incoming entry into the SPX global network established by the United Nation Industrial Development Organization, a network involving 46 countries and 114 members.
The core business of SPX (Beijing) Center includes:
      a. Facilitating local enterprises entering global industry subcontracting system.
      b. Helping local enterprises building general accepted standards for entry into the global industry subcontracting system.
c Improving the engineering level of local manufacturing business by introducing transnational capital and techniques.
The presence of SPX (Beijing) Center will facilitate the industrial enterprises in Beijing and its neighboring provinces in interaction and collaboration with their overseas counterparts, improving the productivity level, enhancing their corporate competitiveness, increasing product export and economic benefits and accelerating the upgrading of traditional industries and the development of production resources in Beijing.
